We crossed 0.3 percent complaints on a promo blast. Gmail started deferring. The creative was in Brew. The pipe was SendGrid. Blaming the canvas would have been comforting and wrong.
What actually happened: we reused a purchased-adjacent list, skipped the canary, and sent a 40 percent discount to people who had not opened in 120 days. The fix was list hygiene and a 2,000-address canary, not a vendor swap.

Write the complaint rate next to the tool name or do not post a vendor take. This is the post I wish we had written last year.
SendGrid did not fail you. The audience did. Keep the pipe. Fix the list.
